LITTLE ROCK – Because of dangerous road conditions due to extreme winter weather, City of Little Rock offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 20. Under the City's inclement weather policy, essential and emergency services will remain fully staffed and operational.

Crews from the City's Public Works Department continue to work 24 hours a day to treat and clear roadways. With near-record cold temperatures expected tonight, crews will focus on re-treating the City's primary snow routes because of expected refreezing overnight.

Once primary routes are cleared and treated, crews move to secondary roads and residential streets.

Sanitation and recycling pickup have both been suspended for Thursday because of unsafe road conditions.

Wind chill readings are expected to reach as low as 5 degrees below zero on Thursday morning, so residents are asked to take cold-weather precautions and limit their time outdoors.

Anyone without a warm place to stay is encouraged to seek refuge at the City of Little Rock's temporary, cold-weather emergency shelter. The shelter is located at Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St. It will remain operational 24 hours a day until further notice.

Because the City has implemented its inclement weather policy, several public meetings initially scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday have been postponed.

The Animal Services Advisory Board meeting scheduled for this evening has been postponed, as has Thursday morning's planned Civil Service Commission meeting.

The Little Rock Board of Adjustment will not meet Thursday, and a public hearing to discuss drainage improvements on Teton Forest Drive will be rescheduled.

New dates for these meetings have not been set at this time.
