LITTLE ROCK – All City of Little Rock offices will be open Friday, Feb. 21, as normal operations resume following this week's extreme winter weather.
The City's temporary, cold-weather emergency shelter remains open through Friday morning, and it will mobilize as an overnight operation starting Friday at 6 p.m. The shelter located at Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St., is open to anyone in need of a safe, warm and dry place to stay.
The shelter will transition from 24-hour-a-day operation at 9 a.m. Friday, then re-open from 6 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Transportation assistance to community organizations or other warming centers will be provided as needed upon shelter closure both Friday and Saturday.
With city operations restarting, sanitation and recycling collections will also resume Friday.
City of Little Rock sanitation and WM recycling trucks will run Thursday's scheduled routes Friday and Friday's routes on Saturday. This pre-scheduled delay is because of the Daisy Gatson Bates holiday this week.
All sanitation and recycling pickup will resume as normally scheduled on Monday. Any residents whose collections were missed this week may leave any additional trash bags (sanitation pickup) and a cardboard box of recycling materials beside their trash and recycling containers on their next regular collection day.
As of Thursday afternoon, most of the City's primary and secondary roads were clear, as public works crews have been working around the clock since early Tuesday morning to treat and plow roads. With that, the potential for refreezing is possible tonight and into Friday morning, so motorists are urged to remain cautious on the roadways for potential slick spots or black ice.
